The Nashville Number System was developed by session players and singers back in the 1950’s as an easy, informal way to transpose song charts from one key to another without having to completely rewrite them for each different key.

   The reason that the Number Method works so well and is so popular is because it is logical and simple. Its use is so prevalent that it is now essential to know the Number Method in nearly every recording studio and live performance in Nashville and it is being utilized more and more in many other styles of music from Pop to Jazz.
